If You See Someone With A Semicolon Tattoo, This Is What It Means!

You have probably seen a person or a photo of someone with a semicolon tattoo. If it made you wonder what it means we are going to explain why this tattoo is much more than a decoration for the body. The semicolon tattoo is small however, it represents a great deal about a person’s mental health struggle.

Green Bay, Wisconsin is the place where the project Semicolon started.

This project’s goal was to help people who struggle with depression, addiction, self-harm and suicide. This tattoo also represents the memory of those people who passed away such as the father of Amy Bleuel who is the movement’s founder. Amy battled with mental illnesses and depression her whole life. She lost her father to suicide and she wanted to keep the memory of him in a special way. Her father’s death was also the reason why she wanted to raise awareness for suicide prevention as well as other mental issues. In order to do so she started Project Semicolon. This project’s aim is offering hope, love and understanding for people who suffer from addictions, depression, self-injury and suicidal thoughts.

The semicolon is a punctuation mark that indicates a pause between two connected thoughts. The writer could have ended the sentence but chose to keep it going. In Project Semicolon they tell you that you are the author and your life is the sentence.

This project is devoted to prevent suicide which is a permanent solution.

All around the world there are more than 300 million people who suffer from depression. Most of them suffer in silence and are embarrassed to talk in fear of being judged. Project Semicolon wants to raise the awareness of those who struggle with mental problems that they are not alone even though they might feel lonely.

Other programs such as Project Semicolon are striving to tell people worldwide who suffer from some kind of mental issue that there are millions of others who feel the same way they do.

No matter what the cause of your depression, addiction or suicidal thoughts is, you must know that you are never alone. This project provides support for those who need it and encourages them to ask for help and to share their stories. However, the Project Semicolon does not provide a 24 hour hotline. In case of an emergency you must always call local authorities or a mental health professional for help.
