8 Home Remedies For Bronchitis


The flu or cold are most common during the cold winter days however, you can still contract them at any time during the year. Another very common respiratory issue is bronchitis which is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes. Acute bronchitis occurs because of a cold or another respiratory infection. Even though it is usually minor, acute bronchitis can sometimes turn into a life-threatening condition.

Here are some ways you can treat bronchitis at home using natural remedies.

  1. Water

This is undoubtedly the simplest way to thin the mucus that is blocking the bronchial tubes. The only thing you should do is drink 1 glass of water every 2 hours.

  1. Home-made vapor rub

A vapor rub provides a cooling effect which is very helpful in bronchitis treatment. Prepare a homemade vapor rub with ¼ cup of olive oil, ½ cup of coconut oil, ¼ cup of grated bees wax, 20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil and 20 drops of peppermint essential oil.  First, put the bees wax, the olive oil and coconut oil in a jar. Take a sauce pan and fill it 2 inches of water and heat it on the stove on medium to low heat. Put the jar in the sauce pan and once the oils start to melt stir them. As soon as the oils are combined well remove the jar from heat and let it cool. Then add the essential oil and transfer the mixture into storage containers. Wait until it is completely cold before you use the vapor rub.

  1. Steam

Put boiled water in a bowl and add a few drops of pine or eucalyptus essential oil and inhale the steam. The eucalyptus oil works by softening the mucus in the blocked airways and also has anti-bacterial effects. The pine oil is excellent for getting rid of the phlegm.

  1. Cayenne pepper

Spicy foods such as cayenne pepper have the ability to thin the mucus and cause a healthy cough which can help you get rid of the mucus in the bronchial tubes.

  1. Oregano oil

Oregano is not only and ingredient in pizza. It can also promote bronchial health due to its anti-bacterial properties.

  1. Ginger, cinnamon and clove

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, boosts the immune system and is excellent for treating bronchitis. Prepare a tea with ½ teaspoon of ground ginger, cinnamon and clove in order to fight the common cold.

  1. Garlic

Garlic is an amazing natural antibiotic which also has antiviral properties. Peel and chop 3 garlic cloves and boil them in a glass of water or milk. Drink the mixture before going to bed.

  1. Honey

Honey is a super food but also a natural remedy for many health issues including a sore throat because it provides a soothing relief. Honey is also helpful for treating inflammation and congestion. Add 1 teaspoon of honey to a cup of tea or lemon water.
